VoIP - Zincox
Zincox, a zinc mining and processing company, has transformed its operation into a global organisation. Dynax was engaged to revamp the infrastructure at its head office in the UK by providing an up-to-date voice and data communications strategy.
The company needed a messaging solution for its globally based and mobile workforce, with remote offices in Belgium and the USA, and field sites in the Middle East.
The remote locations have been connected via a worldwide VPN providing secure and seamless access to resources. Dynax created an email messaging platform based on Microsoft Exchange server, with access to email from any location. Video conferencing suites were installed, with instant productivity gains through reduced travel costs and time.
Voice-only communications were tackled via a new Alcatel telephony platform installed by Dynax, which provides advanced call handling features for 24-hour operation. VoIP technology provides remote workers with a PC-based ‘softphone’ handset. This makes remote workers accessible in any location that has internet access, reducing the high call costs from international tariffs. A worker can function from a hotel or field site in exactly the same way as if they were in their UK office
The Dynax contribution
VoIP is not the only way to do things in every case, but it does open up the options of being able to do more. It enables you to phone your office in Australia as an extension, for instance. “A lot of companies have started selling VoIP systems but have ignored traditional methods. That’s Alcatel’s strength: it has the background in phone systems and has added VoIP to that. So it can provide whatever is right for the customer,” says Eddy Alejos.
“Telephony is in Alcatel’s blood, and so we are very confident in having them as our premier VoIP partner.”.
